Automated Meter Reading (AMR)

Automated Meter Reading (AMR)
What is AMR?

Water meter reading are traditionally read by manually checking and recording the meter reading by a person from the utility company, which is a labour-intensive and time consuming manual process. Automated meter reading facilitates reading the meter remotely without actually accessing the meter premises.

With GSV’s automatic meter reading (AMR) solutions, you can streamline the meter reading process, improve operational efficiency, accuracy, control and reduce costs.

How does AMR work?

For automated meter reading of water meters, AMR is attached to your existing meter or your existing meter is replaced with an AMR meter. This meter then transmits the reading at predetermined intervals. The transmission is either by Radio Frequency (RF) or GPRS/GSM. The meter reading is collected either by a hand-held unit from a close proximity to the meter or is transmitted to a repeater station which is then sent to the utlity company's server. The data is recorded on the utility company's server which can be used for billing and usage analysis

What are the Benefits?

For utilities searching for an automated, efficient, scalable AMR system, GSV AMR system minimizes collection time and leverages the power of data...with low infrastructure investment. GSV's walk-by and drive-by solutions use advanced radio frequency technology to achieve optimal range with low interference, allowing your employees to receive crystal clear meter information from as far as several blocks away.

Automating the meter reading process is a proven, cost-effective way to streamline your operations. But with rising demand, operational and environmental constraints, and aging infrastructures, today’s utilities are looking for more than just data for monthly bill creation. With GSV’s AMR solutions, you can propel your operations to the next level and deliver the service—and value—your customers demand.

Featuring two-way communications down to the meter, GSV’s AMR systems deliver, manage and analyze data more frequently giving you more insight than ever before. With this information, you gain a more comprehensive understanding of how and when usage takes place, which in turn leads to more proactive management of customers and resources. From demand-side management to optimizing the distribution network and ensuring system integrity.
